A Bespoke Garden Hair Salon

A professional garden salon near Nottingham

Our client wanted to create a dedicated hair salon at home, a professional, welcoming space where she could work comfortably and give her clients a high-quality salon experience without needing separate commercial premises.

This project needed to be more than a standard garden room. It required a practical salon layout, plumbing, drainage, a toilet, extractor fans, suitable lighting and space for salon furniture and equipment.

The finished building has become a beautiful and fully functional garden salon, complete with styling stations, a wash area, customer seating, storage and a separate toilet.

The brief

The client wanted a garden room that would feel warm, professional and inviting for customers, while also being practical for day-to-day salon use.

The main salon area needed to provide enough space for styling chairs, mirrors, product storage, a wash basin and working surfaces. It also needed a toilet and sink, which were designed into an angled section of the building to make the best use of the available garden space.

Externally, the building needed to sit neatly within an existing courtyard garden, working with the surrounding brick walls, paving and planting.

Designed around a working salon

The main garden room was designed as a 4.5m x 3.5m salon space, with an additional angled toilet and storeroom area.

This allowed the salon to have a generous main working area while keeping the toilet and storage neatly tucked away to one side. The angled layout made good use of the corner of the garden and helped the building fit naturally within the existing boundary walls.

The internal salon layout was carefully considered so that styling chairs, mirrors, shelving, product displays and the wash station could all work comfortably together.

Plumbing, drainage and toilet facilities

Because this building was being used as a hair salon, plumbing and drainage were a key part of the project.

The specification included full drainage and plumbing installation, with reinstatement works included afterwards. A separate toilet was created with an internal stud wall, door, toilet, sink and extractor fan.

An additional extractor fan was also included for the main salon area, along with air conditioning, helping to keep the space comfortable during daily use.

These practical details are what allow the finished garden room to function properly as a professional working salon rather than simply an attractive room in the garden.

Exterior finish and entrance

The exterior was finished with Thermowood cladding to the most visible elevations, giving the salon a warm, natural appearance.

Black double doors, black roofline details and black external wall lights create a smart contrast against the timber. A small composite deck and step provide a clear entrance for clients, making the building feel welcoming and easy to access.

The external lighting also gives the salon a lovely atmosphere in the evening, helping it feel professional and inviting from the moment clients arrive.

The finished result

The completed garden salon gives the client a dedicated, professional space to run their business from home.

It is practical, comfortable and finished to a high standard, with the plumbing, drainage, toilet facilities, lighting and internal layout all designed around the needs of a working hair salon.

This project is a great example of how a bespoke garden room can be tailored to support a home-based business, creating a space that looks beautiful while also working hard every day.
